If teams supposedly perform better than individuals, why do so many people dislike going to meetings? In this course, we’ll discuss why some teams do better than others and why some team experiences are better than others. These courses will focus on how to put together a group of people, get their buy-in, and move them toward a common, shared goal – the very definition of leadership. This course is experiential and will involve participating in group-based exercises.
Assembling and Structuring a Group: What is the ideal ‘composition’ of a group? What should you consider when putting a team together? When and why is diversity better?
Coordinating Group Members: Delegation is only half the battle when it comes to getting the most out of a team. How can you coordinate group members and what makes some teams more efficient than others?
Group Decision Making: why do some groups make better decisions than others? Using a group-based simulation, we’ll discuss why some groups perform better than others.
Group Leadership and Followership: When do you want a ‘flat’ team structure versus a hierarchical team structure? How does the structure of the team affect its processes and functioning? We will discuss demonstrate some of the advantages and disadvantages of hierarchy.
The cost for this session is $150.
